Jaco Erasmus
Jaco Erasmus was born and raised in South Africa. He holds degrees from the University of Pretoria: BCom Law, LLB, and LLM (Procedural Law). He was admitted as an attorney (called to the bar) in 2013, after he completed his two-year articles with the law firm JW Wessels & Partners Inc in Pretoria, South Africa. Mr Erasmus stayed with the firm for another five years where he became a junior partner practising in areas of criminal law, commercial law, and civil litigation. In doing criminal defence work for over six years, he represented clients at all facets in various Magistrate Courts across three provinces.
In 2019, Mr Erasmus and his family immigrated to Canada. He completed the required accreditation for foreign trained lawyers described by the Federal Law Societies of Canada. Mr Erasmus completed his articles with the Merchant Law Group LLP and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 2021. He remained with the firm for five months before joining the Saskatchewan Prosecutions’ Regina office in March 2022. In February 2023, Mr Erasmus took over the commercial crimes portfolio within the Regina office. He is currently handling major commercial crime prosecutions as a Senior Crown Prosecutor. He also consults with various police agencies to provide advice and guidance on the subject matter of financial crime.
