Hilary Young
Hilary Young is Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick. Her research and teaching interests include defamation, remedies, tort, and health law. She is one of Canada’s leading defamation scholars and is one of the authors of Canadian Tort Law, 13th edition (Toronto: LexisNexis Canada, 2026). Professor Young also researches and teaches health law, with an emphasis on informed consent and end-of-life legal issues. Her remedies scholarship includes research on defamation damages and injunctions. She has participated in law reform efforts that have resulted in easier access to takedown remedies in nonconsensual disclosure of intimate images cases. Her work has been cited by courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has been funded by granting agencies including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada
