Francis Syms is a senior industry professional and educator in the areas of cybersecurity, risk management, project management, and telecommunications. He is an inventor of a patented secure messaging platform, and has spent years working in various roles at telecommunication, hardware development, and software development companies.
Francis holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University and a MASc from the University of Toronto Graduate Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His certifications include the Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) from the Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute. His is currently pursuing the certification of Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) from the EC-Council, and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from the International Information System Security Consortium.
Currently, Francis is a professor in the Protection, Security, and Investigation Program at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, where he actively teaches courses in cybersecurity, risk management, and ethics, and is an investigator in several cybersecurity related research projects at Humber. Francis is also the CEO of The Joule Group, which delivers telecommunication and cybersecurity solutions to various clients.
