Ellen B. Zweibel

Ellen B. Zweibel is a professor at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Law, and a co-founding Director of the faculty’s Legal Writing Academy. She teaches Introduction to Income Tax and Dispute Resolution and Professional Responsibility. The latter course is an experiential learning program for all first-year law students. Zweibel’s curriculum innovations meet the changing needs of her profession.

She has been recognized for teaching achievements with the following awards: the 2014 CNIE Award for Excellence & Innovation in the Integration of Technology in Instructional Design, Teaching and Learning; the 2013 Desire2Learn Innovation in Teaching; the 2011 University of Ottawa Excellence in Education Prize; and the 2007 Sharing the Flame Award from the Canadian Council of Learning.

Zweibel’s open-access legal-writing website Point First: Legal Writing is used in courses and for self-study by professors, law firms, students, and lawyers. The interactive website features blended-learning course materials and will be expanding with a new unit entitled “Edit Your Own Work,” which is slated for a Fall 2015 release.
